Strathclyde University Muslim Society Receives Murder Threat

The message was sent through a fake profile on social media just one day after the horrific attacks in Paris, which left 129 people dead.

The message stated:

“Scum like you that are the terrorists that kill our men and women and children… we’ll bomb your mosques and kill your women and it’ll do us nothing but pleasure. We’ll take our revenge for what you did in Paris last night.”

Strathclyde message censored

Police Scotland have confirmed to The EDIT that a 19 year-old has been arrested following the incident.

The SUMSA released a statement telling whoever sent the message: “we are sorry that you have received such a distorted image of our religion”, it went on to add:

Despite the fear that you have put us through, we at Strathclyde University Muslim Students Association are always willing to welcome you with open arms.”

This is just one of several Islamophobic incidents to occur since the Paris attacks, others include an arson attack at a mosque in Bishopbriggs, and a torrent of racist abuse being sent to the Glasgow MSP, Humza Yousaf.

Rameez, the President of SUMSA, said: “Ignorance breeds extremism and allowing it to exist is what allows Islamic hate groups to exist. We cannot allow ourselves to get to a stage where women are too afraid to walk down the street with their headscarves in fear of being attacked.”
