The social work society decided that there was a need to do a clothing drive in order to help homeless people in dire straits. Through observation in everyday life, we realised that there are more and more people of varying ages and sexes on the streets with a lack of provisions.
So we had a discussion between us and decided that we would do a clothing drive and ask people for:
· Sleeping bags,
· Warm clothes,
· Toiletries,
· Hats and scarves
· Sanitary products
We also discussed between us who we would like to donate the clothes to, as there are so many great organisations that would welcome more support.
As a group we landed on two charities: help4thehomeless and Maslow’s community shop in Govan, both of these are great charities that are in more need of resources than some of their larger counterparts, so as a group we decided to donate to them. I have included links to their website, and some of their volunteers came to Glasgow Caledonian University to collect the donations from the social work society.
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone that donated for their massive generosity, in total we received a mix of clothing and we received thirty nine bags full of donations, and everyone has pulled together to try and make a difference.
It has been a wonderful experience and we are proud to have been involved.
