ELIR GCU Update

All higher education institutions (HEIs) in Scotland are required to go through an Enhancement Led Institutional Review (ELIR) every five years. The ELIR is carried out by a panel of staff and student reviewers selected by the QAA from HEIs across the UK. The main focus of the review is on the institution’s approach to quality, enhancement and the student experience.  GCU submitted the Reflective Analysis (RA) report, a self-evaluation report, at the end of November 2019 to the QAA ELIR Panel, which has now been published internally to all students through their GCU Learn home page and to staff through Caledonian Connected. The ELIR panel will use our Reflective Analysis to inform the initial discussions to be held during its Planning Visit on February 6. The outputs from this visit, along with the RA, will determine the themes the panel will focus on during its Main Review Visit, scheduled for March 23 to 27. During the Main Review Visit, the ELIR panel will meet with a range of our staff and students. Once they know the focus of the visit the ELIR team will reach out to the University community to invite individual staff and students to take part in the review.

Last year, students and staff from across the University took part in a consultation to inform for preparations for the University’s Enhancement-Led Institutional Review (ELIR). The feedback gathered provided a contemporary view of GCU from the perspective of those who study and work at GCU, and has been illustrated in the diagram above.
