Glasgow Caledonian has announced a scheme in which students can get free porridge and a hot drink, this has come on the back of The EDIT’s campaign to bring back free breakfasts.
The scheme will start from Monday, 16 October and last til the end of term – in the Students Association building and will be from 8:30am – 9:30am.
Chidozie Nwaigwe, student association president, said: “One of the objectives of myself and the other full time officers this year is to alleviate the impact of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis among GCU Students.
“One of the ways we intend to do this is by opening a student pantry on Level 0 of the Students’ Association, where students will be able to pick up long-life food and other necessities at absolutely no cost to them.
“This along with the installation of a hot water tap are some of the things we’re working hard to get in place this academic year with the support of the University. We understand that plans for the future do nothing to help students in the here and now, that’s partly why we’re introducing our Winter Warmer campaign.”
The original programme last year, initially intended to last til March 2023, was extended til the end of the semester but officially ended in May – this new scheme has the same aim as the previous project of to help guide us through the cost-of-living crisis.
Our editor, Daniel Byron, said: “This campaign shows how important student media is to raise the issues faced by students at our university.
“And hopefully it can raise further discussions on how best the faculty can help students later in the year.”
