REVIEW: The Snuts deliver an energetic homecoming performance in Glasgow

PUNTERS piled upon the cobbled ground of SWG3 Galvanisers yard armed with pints and ponchos on Saturday, for the final night of cracking live music from Whitburn lads The Snuts.

After a storming set the night before, fans descended on the venue despite the typical Glasgow weather, catching support from fellow Scottish rising acts Parliamo and Vistas. If you were a fan of indie music, you were in for a treat.

As the rain pelted, frontman Jack Cochrane and his bandmates came on stage, distracting fans from their soggy bucket hats and water-laden drinks with noise in the shape of ‘Gloria’, their first standalone single after the band separated from their previous label.

The indie quartet departed Parlophone Records earlier this year, forming independent label Happy Artist Records.

Swaggering through their set list, the band treated fans to old demos and new hits alike. We were even treated to an appearance from Ayrshire rapper Bemz, who joined the lads for ‘Cosmic Electronica’.

As the rain clouds parted, the night drew to an end, with a feisty encore that kept fans on their toes.

Those who were dedicated enough – or perhaps with enough drink to keep them warm – to stay to the end heard their 2017 demo ‘What’s Going On’, a personal favourite of mine.

The night ended with a mix-up of Robbie Williams’s hit ‘Let Me Entertain You’, with their own Fatboy Slim, leaving the last ones standing satisfied.

The back-to-back nights of hit after hit for these lads on their biggest headline shows to date were no disappointment.

This pair of homecoming gigs is a sign of a new chapter and what’s to come for The Snuts.
