Die with a smile: A pop duo we didn’t know we needed

Two of modern pop’s biggest icons have teamed up to release a rhythmic love ballad, complete with a showstopping music video.

The video, directed by Daniel Ramos, released on August 16th opens in a retro recording studio, Lady Gaga sits at a piano and Bruno Mars stands on electric guitar, both drenched in 60s americana ready to bring romance back to the charts.

The two first teased fans of their collaboration on Instagram only days prior to announcing the release their newest single, with both taking to social media to post pictures wearing one another’s merchandise.

The collaboration was initially pitched by Mars, Gaga said: “Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other and were talking about collaborating.

“I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on.”

“It was around midnight when I got there, and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song.

“Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation; His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.”

Neither of the singers have been absent from the industry for long, with Mars’ last output being his grammy winning collaboration with Anderson Paak: An Evening with Silk Sonic

Gaga last fed her fans with a powerful anthem of hope in ‘Hold my Hand’ a song created for the 2022 film, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

This return is a display of the two artists’ prowess across genres as Mars returns to his classic grenade catching; melodic roots and Gaga draws upon her learnings from Tony Bennett to provide heart-wrenching honesty of the heart.

If the two should find the time to continue this partnership – as Gaga stars in Joker: folie à deux releasing October 4th, while Mars continues his Las Vegas residency with dates up until December of this year- it will be one for the ages.
