Before you go to bed you may plan to get up early and give yourself plenty of time to get ready and dress to the nines, however this isn’t always a reality when you’ve pressed the snooze button seventeen times and have twenty minutes to jump out of bed and shove literally anything you can find on.
It may not seem realistic to look on point for a 9am lecture. However, with the right few pieces – or a capsule wardrobe per say – you can wake up with fifteen minutes to leave and still look like you’ve been studying fashion blogs with a coffee in hand all morning.
The key is to look good but still be comfortable enough to run around campus. Here are a few pointers to make precious getting-ready-time a lot easier:
1. Backpacks are in.
Have one backpack that you keep solely for uni. This means you will not forget anything as everything is already in there. There’s been numerous times I’ve came to uni with three lipsticks and no student card because I’ve changed my handbag from the previous day and shoved everything in while running round my flat brushing my teeth. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy, a black one or anything neutral is the way forward as no matter what outfit you are wearing it will go, which is one less thing to worry about.
2. Invest in a ridiculously versatile pair of shoes.
Doc Martens go with literally anything, they are a bit pricey but are definitely an investment piece as they will last forever and see you through the Scottish weather. Trainers are also huge right now and if you pick the right pair can also be incredibly versatile. You may be drawn to the bright ones but again try and stick to neutral – black trainers can look really cool and again will go with anything.
3. The Joni Jean
Topshop’s best creation yet. They are available in a load of different styles. The Joni jeans are incredibly high waisted which means they can be worn with crop tops, but also look cute with oversized jumpers and a pair of chunky boots.
4. A jacket you can throw on top of anything.
While leather jackets do go with everything and seem like the easiest option, try go with something a little different. Vintage shops are ridiculously good for jackets and super affordable. If you want to be on trend, they will 100% have something similar to what you saw on the high street at a fraction of the price.
A few months ago when fringed jackets made their comeback I found a tan one in Mr Ben’s for £30 and is incredibly good quality, much better than walking into class and discovering everyone spotted the same High street piece you saw. A good jacket will make a plain outfit a lot more interesting with little effort. Always put on a faux fur one if I’m not feeling luxe enough!
5. Always wear a hair tie round your wrist.
Glasgow weather is extremely unpredictable, and even if you did have the time to straighten your hair this morning it may not be looking great by the time you’ve gotten off the subway. If this is the case then don’t panic, you can shove it up in a messy bun provided you have your trusty hair tie.
