The world is changing and so should people’s perception of others.
In today’s society, people judge others far too easily without knowing who they’re judging.
If you tend to judge someone for coming to University with a full face of make-up – eyeliner, eye-shadow, contoured cheeks, the lot – then think again.
To me, make-up is a form of self-expression and art; something that should be regarded as a talent. For someone who tends to wear and purchase a lot of make-up (I mean, why bother to save money when you can make yourself look good?) I believe that someone capable of doing the perfect smoky eye or perfectly contouring their face should be praised.
To anyone who makes you think that making an effort is wrong: if you feel like doing a lovely smoky eye, contouring your face, or using a coloured highlighter just to pop to the shop, I say go for it. It’s your life and you shouldn’t be afraid to be bold.
Those who make an effort, even if they could’ve spent another half hour to an hour sleeping or doing something else with their time, should be thought about positively rather than negatively.
It’s worth considering that for many people, there may be a another reason behind their willingness to be late in the morning because they’ve slept in and can’t bear to face the public without make-up. As someone who is pretty self-conscious, I come under this umbrella. I use make-up as a way to give myself a confidence boost, as my natural no make-up face can make me feel insecure, a feeling I’m sure many others experience as well.
I wasn’t always the best at putting myself out there in a crowd, but my growing love for make-up has helped me to feel better about myself, and made me feel proud and comfortable to introduce myself to people and make new friends – something that a good few years ago I found extremely difficult.
Experimenting with make-up shows that you aren’t afraid to be yourself, and it can help someone portray their personality, create individuality and develop confidence without having to be vocal about it.
There aren’t any rules or regulations to make-up. Be yourself, have fun, be confident and most importantly do not listen to those who bring you down!
