Resonate Gaming Festival is a Resounding Success

The third instalment of Resonate Gaming Festival in Glasgow has proved to be an amazing opportunity for Scottish online creators and game developers. The event took place at the SEC Hydro from 19th to 21st October, and 2018 was the biggest and best year of the event so far.

Resonate was set up so both families and adult gamers could enjoy their time at the event. Despite the large number of games on offer, there was one title on everyone’s mind: “My child has dragged me along to all of the Fortnite stuff. It’s their favourite, they won’t stop talking about it!”

With Fortnite tournaments and dance competitions set up over the weekend and throughout both halls, it is no wonder the game was so popular.

However, Fortnite wasn’t the only thing showcased at Resonate, there were also Rocket League and Overwatch tournaments with the chance to win state of the art gaming laptops. There were live CS: GO tournaments as well as an 18+ section so people could check out the latest instalment of the Call of Duty franchise. Alternatively, there was Kidz Zone with even more Fortnite, Minecraft and a retro gaming station with older consoles including GameCubes

The festival also welcomed special guests from all over the UK. Gamer and vlogger Tom Cassell, otherwise known as TheSyndicateProject, was the main star but he was also joined by popular YouTubers and streamers like MarleyThirteen, Pyrocynical, Batchy and Terroriser. British YouTuber Pyrocynical attended the event on Friday and Saturday and said he had a great time: “This is my first time at Resonate and I have really enjoyed it. I wish I had the time to go around the stalls, but I’ve been so busy meeting people that I haven’t had the chance.”

David Whiteside and Mark McVey are the creators of the YouTube channel Great Scot Gamers. They took a leap of faith and hired a booth despite being a small channel with just over 70 subscribers, in order to advertise and hopefully entice new people into checking them out. The pair really enjoyed their time at the event and spoke about how it was an amazing opportunity to get their name out there. They sold t-shirts and set up competitions to win some over the weekend. It seemed to be a great success for the pair as their channel appears to be growing steadily now that more people know who they are.

It is safe to say that Resonate was a resounding success and that those who attended enjoyed themselves. Creators and vendors got the chance to network and advertise and grow as a business or an internet personality. The attendees got to interact with their favourite YouTubers and streamers, meet new people and compete in competitions and games to win prizes. Things are looking up for the Scottish gaming community and we can’t wait for next year!
