The run-up to Christmas is always an exciting few months for new video game releases. With so many games being released these days on multiple platforms, it’s hard to look out for the games you should consider picking up. With that in mind, here is a brief list of some of the most promising releases in the next few months…
CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 4: Released 12.10.18
Available on Windows, PS4, Xbox One
The fan favourite Call of Duty franchise is reignited this October with this latest offering from Treyarch, their fourth game in the Black Ops storyline. After a disappointing few years for the franchise, this game should propel them right back into the mainstream. The famous zombies will make a return, while a battle royale game mode should peak the interests of avid Fortnite players. Strangely, the game’s developers have decided not to include a single player campaign mode this year, but this may only be a small criticism if the rest of the game is up to the usual high standard which Treyarch delivers.
JUST DANCE 2019: Released 25.10.18
Available on Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
The latest instalment of the ever-popular body shaker will hit stores in the UK this October across multiple platforms. Whether it’s boogying to Shakira, or getting down with friends to Robbie Williams, there’s a little bit of something for everyone on Just Dance. This year’s title sees the return of the paid streaming service ‘Just Dance Unlimited’, where players will have access to over 400 songs. A month’s access to this is included with the purchase of the game. Songs this year include Liam Payne’s hit ‘Familiar’, Dua Lipa’s award-winning ‘New Rules’ and Elton John’s classic ‘I’m Still Standing’. This is a game made for group enjoyment, or maybe a cheeky solo danceathon occasionally.
WRECKFEST: Released 20.11.18
Available on Windows, PS4, Xbox One
Have you ever wanted to just take a car and crash the living hell out of it? How about taking part in a huge demolition derby with your friends? If the answer to either question was yes, then this is the game for you. Wreckfest has been in development for over six years, and it has certainly been worth the wait. The most prominent and exciting feature of the game is the damage modelling system, which allows for some of the most realistic driving you will ever see on a screen. This means that the races are all about tactics, do you go for aggression and attempt to wipe everyone out, or do you go defensive and attempt to survive? This game will give you and your online buddies endless hours of high octane, crashtastic fun!
JUST CAUSE 4: Released 04.12.18
Available on Windows, PS4, Xbox One
Liberator of the people Rico Rodriguez returns in the latest offering from Avalanche Studios, this time fighting injustice in the fictional South American country of Solis. The iconic third person, explosive action of the Just Cause series continues in this latest game, with Rico’s trusty grappling hook and parachute as important as always. The biggest change from the previous title, the highly successful Just Cause 3, is the addition of extreme weather. This will only serve to add to the chaos that is the staple of this incredible series of games.
