The Great Western

An all-day music festival is coming to Glasgow today!

The Great Western, described as “A festival of exploration and discovery” was created to focus on community spirit and to celebrate underused and underappreciated spaces in Glasgow’s West End.

Over 50 acts, global, local and UK-wide, will be performing across the West End of Glasgow in a wide variety of venues. These include, the Òran Mór, The Glue Factory, The Hug & Pint and loads more.

One of the acts, Rory James chatted about the festival’s importance: “Festivals like this are great for seeing loads of artists all in a day, and getting to know other musicians in the Scottish industry. Everybody is usually pretty up for collaborating in some way and that’s what makes the scene here so healthy.”

There will also be a chance to sample some fine food and drink because of The Great Western working closely with the local restaurants and bars. There will also be a wide variety of community workshops giving visitors the chance to pickup a new skill or rekindle an old one.

Bristol born band Cousin Kula will be performing after Rory James in the Hug & Pint at 4.15pm. They explained why festivals like this one are so much fun: “You go down there to watch one or two bands that you’ve maybe heard of before online or whatever, but usually you end up catching something brand new as well.”

Full day tickets are available for £28 as well as individual venue tickets. Visit http://tgwfest.com for tickets, full festival information and updates.

There is also a Facebook page with information and links to the website.
