As arguably one of the UK’s rising acting and comedy stars, reflected by her recent Herald Culture Award win as “one to watch”, Rachel Jackson follows up her successful debut “Bunny Boiler” with a brilliant 50 minutes about the ‘times up’ and ‘me too’ era we have entered as a society.
Uncompromisingly hilarious as she is playfully dark, Rachel’s seemingly unlimited energy helps her start the show off by engaging the audience enthusiastically in her opening salvos. The show then flits between, horrendously funny anecdotal accounts and cleverly written pieces which allude to how capable and punchy she can be when the narrative allows. A segment about opening a nightclub up so people can enjoy their fallen idols music is guaranteed to touch a nerve as much as it is to make you laugh. Likewise, a fantastic section on why her armpit has an itch is unforgettable and may ruin any plans to watch the Edinburgh Tattoo later in the evening without bursting in tears of laughter.
This show is a joy to watch, whilst only being on a limited run due to Rachel’s film commitments, it is thoroughly a “must see” show. I attended with 5 other Caley students and we were all absolutely in fits of laughter throughout.
