Freshers Food: Cheap eats in Glasgow

Moving everything you own and fitting it into one tiny box room is hungry work.

You’ve got seven, inexplicably drunk, fresher’s nights to get through and nothing in the fridge, so here’s seven budget-friendly places to eat for every day of your fresher’s week!

Day 1- Bloc+

With fantastic daily deals including £3 pasta Monday and £5 steak Wednesday, you can’t go wrong. Also, the cool basement vibes and nightly free gigs are a great introduction to Glasgow and its unbeatable music scene.

Day 2 – Nice N Sleazy

One of the only places in Glasgow where the staff will happily let you graffiti the walls. Nice N Sleazy serves up a new menu every few months. They are currently going for the Mexican vibe featuring sweet potato tacos for £3.95 and delicious margaritas.

Day 3 – Kitty O’Sheas

A cosy basement Irish bar serving up cheap cocktails and great daily deals including half rack of ribs for £3 and a soup and sandwich deal for £3.50.

Day 4 – Stereo

So you’ve made a new pal and they’re vegetarian. You’re desperately trying to find somewhere to suit you both. Well, look no further than Stereo Café. Choose from tapas dishes like buffalo cauliflower and homemade falafels, or go for a full dish like cauliflower cheese and cashew gnocchi or their vegan-friendly pizzas.

Day 5 – NYC Bar and Grill

This New York themed bar serves all the cocktails you’ll find in Sex and the City and always shows American sports. They serve traditional dogs and burgers – most for under £7. Couple that with their £3 cocktails and you can wine and dine for less than a tenner.

Day 6 – The Project Café

Just down the road from GCU, this not-for-profit café and self-proclaimed arts space is small sanctuary away from the busy Glasgow streets. With a new homemade menu every day and a cute garden patio, The Project Café will refill your soul for your last fresher’s night.

Day 7 – Malone’s Irish Bar

Last but not least is our good ol’ sponsor Malone’s. Classes are starting and you’re exhausted but excited for the semester. Enjoy a hearty burger, chips and drink for £5 with your new friends.
